File extension XPI is used for zip files download as plug-ins for web browsers Mozilla and FireFox. These zip files may contain programs used to enhance the browser or application. Files may include the Alexa and PR indicator, add-ons for theme or any other types of plug-ins essential for the browser. Mozilla FireFox can be installed on systems using different platforms including PC, Mac, and Linux.

XPI is often referred to as XPInstall. These tiny programs are designed to enhance the features of the application.
